Buddhist Architecture in the Western Himalaya

Nyarma

The site, which is encircled by a wall, supposedly consisted of eight temples of different size of which in the present time only five are clearly recognisable.
Later, a smaller temple was added above the Cella of the main temple, which is still in use today. It is also interesting to note that the different types of the single edificial structures are still clearly recognisable. In particular, in the main temple the diverse variations of the Mandalas are visible and legible both in the squarish form of the floor plans as well as in the multifaceted realisation of the idea of the interior and exterior ambulatories.
