Buddhist Architecture in the Western Himalaya

Sumda Chung can be reached in half a days walk from the street running alongside the Zanskar-River. The footpath follows the waterways continuously uphill to the village which lies on 3850m of altitude. Only a few families live in the village and due to it's difficult accessability Sumda Chung is rarely known. The temple complex is situated on the crest of the rising hill just behind the few houses of the settlement and has a marvelous view into the valley.
